You Don't Have to Stay Who You Were to
Honor Who You've Been

Like many women, I had a plan.

Graduate from college.
Land my first job.
Gain experience.
Move to a larger company.

Work for a world-renowned architecture and design firm.
Travel the world designing beautiful spaces.
I wasn’t guessing—I was working toward it.

I had always been the student who stayed late, worked hard, earned scholarships, and believed that if you gave your best, opportunities would eventually find you.
And for a while, they did.

I spent more than ten years building a career I genuinely loved.
Not because of the title.
Not because of the paycheck.
But because I loved helping people imagine what was possible.
As an interior designer, one of my favorite moments wasn’t choosing finishes or furniture.

It was sitting across from a client, listening to their dreams, understanding how they wanted their space to feel, and helping them visualize something they couldn’t quite see yet.

Aesthetic coffee

Then months later…

Watching them walk into the finished space.
Seeing their reaction.
Watching possibility become reality.
Looking back now, I realize something.
I’ve always loved transformation.
I just thought it had to happen inside buildings.

Then life introduced me to a new chapter.

Motherhood has a way of asking questions you never expected.

Questions no college class prepares you for.
Questions no job description can answer.
As I held my baby and prepared to return to work, I found myself thinking differently.
Not because I suddenly disliked my career.
I didn’t.
I still loved it.
But my priorities had quietly begun to evolve.
I started asking myself questions that had never crossed my mind before.
What does success look like now?
How do I create more flexibility?
What kind of life am I building for my family?
And perhaps the biggest question of all:
What do I want my next chapter to look like?

The moment everything changed

There was one moment I’ll never forget.
While I was on maternity leave, my team attended an important client meeting.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go well.
When I returned, one of my clients pulled me aside.
They told me the meeting had been disappointing.
Then they said something I’ll never forget.

“We told the end user that you weren’t there because you were on maternity leave… and that you were the one we trusted.”

That conversation changed me.

Not because it made me feel important.

Because it made me realize something much bigger.

For years, I thought I was building my company’s reputation.

Without realizing it, I had also been building my own.

People remembered how I made them feel.

They remembered how I listened.

They remembered how I guided them.
That realization planted a seed.

If I was willing to work this hard building someone else’s business…

What could happen if I started building something of my own?

Evolution doesn't erase your past.

One of the biggest misconceptions about changing careers—or changing seasons of life—is believing you have to leave your old identity behind.
I don’t believe that’s true.
I didn’t stop being a designer.
I still love helping people imagine what’s possible.
I still love guiding people through change.
I still love transformation.
The only thing that changed was the canvas.
Instead of helping people redesign spaces…
Today, I hope to help women redesign possibilities.
